Overrated. The real perk is learning how to not eat it all at once
1·1 year agoI used a tutorial book to help me create a python text game, then I rewrote it and have been casually adding things. I sort of want to re-write it again in Java to see how it compares, I’m more comfortable with java so I’m hoping I could focus more on system design. I’m noticing that the more I add to the base game the more spread out my solutions become, so addressing that is the main interest I have with it.
A new project I’m working on is a simple web scraper. I liked building a lexer/parser in the text game and I think having my own web scraper would be useful.
I’m still learning so I aim for projects I can ‘finish’ in 2-4 weeks.
Oh and a windows notepad that looks like the windows notepad except more customizable. I like the idea of building utilities.
Nothing wrong with simple recipes!
I think this would just nurture that particular type of anxiety.

2·1 year agoI like that idea. Continuing to make money, no matter if it’s just a few hundred dollars a month, is the main hurdle for me to leave. You’d still need to finance construction but it’s a good long term vision.
I am worried about fire seasons/smoke seasons. At best it shortens the tourist season and at worst I lose everything : /
22·1 year agoI don’t doubt it, but what I was getting at was that I wonder if Kushner hasn’t had more serious investigations into these allegations because it is hard to 100% prove and the article brings that up. Obviously Kushner isn’t going to say anything to the FBI, and Flynn is also being silent so the FBI has to rely on a potentially sketchy source. Not much to stand on given that I’m hoping we get to see Kushner in jail one day.

I have nothing really to say except that I like this. In my head cannon they are dancing.
No it’s just another video game. The core competency of this developer is dialogue interaction or dialogue puzzles that help create a sense of immersion in a world with lots of RPG mechanics. It is more or less in line with their previous games. There are quite a few tacked on features.
There’s so much media coverage of video games these days I think it makes it hard to just have them stand on their own merits without having every detail examined and compared across every game that has ever released. People who are spending the money on video games as entertainment will be entertained, but this isn’t a genre defining product and it isn’t a flop either.
Work shouldn’t be the primary source of stress in our lives no matter what the job is.
0·1 year agoI think this debate can get lost in the numbers when it’s more about the user. For some people that upfront cost is going to make sense, for others it won’t. The math isn’t the hard part. Specifically though, a PC hobby isn’t exactly a cheap hobby.
I don’t think it was a choice. Xbox did it first and that’s why I bought a ps3. Then sony introduced it. Then nintendo. It’s still less expensive than a PC hobby. Consumers don’t have much say in what these companies do or how they operate.
3·1 year agoI think a good part of that is because ‘average human’ is not a good way to represent who we are individually. I’m probably above average at specific things but in many other respects I’m average or below or wherever I’m supposed to be. Maybe most people are above average even though on average most of us are average.
Fully above average people IMO are like astronauts and stuff. We all live in the shadow of that former navy seal/doctor/astronaut who is like 45 or some crazy shit.

Currently my plan is to get far enough into my career that I can spend half my time in city making money and half in the woods
I feel the same way about durability but apparently usb-c is rated to 10,000 insertions. Idk though. The lightning port has been very solid in regular use but I can’t say the same about the usb-c ports I’ve known.
Eventually wireless charging will be the standard so it might not matter as much for phones.
