Some days ago, I made a post asking for feedback on adding a tag system to Lemmy. Thank you to everyone who shared thoughts and suggestions!
After reading through the responses, I’ve written up a new RFC trying to incorporate the different ideas:
I’ll repeat the message from last time in case someone has additional ideas to contribute.
The Lemmy development team is considering adding a new tag system that would allow us to tag posts with keywords. This could make it easier to search for and find content on Lemmy.
Before implementing this, the team would like more feedback from users.
Please share your thoughts on whether you’d find a tag system useful, and if so, how you’d want it implemented. The dev team reads all feedback and will use it to decide how to proceed.
You can comment or vote here or on the GitHub issues to provide input. You can vote on whether or not you want the feature, and give opinions on the different implementations, so we can see which proposals are most popular.

Tags would be cool, but should be set by mods of a community or instance, I think if we let users choose the tags, this might create abuse or problem… or limit 1 or 2 tags per post and each tag with a max number of char maybe? But letting user set tags might be useless as they might not use the same tags when talking about the same topic…
Nah man, they won’t listen.I tried to tell them the same in my RFC and you see how that turned out. I don’t think they’ll ever get why this is a bad idea but I don’t expect this RFC to get past dessalines or nutomic either so there’s that.

It seem to work fine for tildes.net, We can allow unrestricted tagging and if real world experience shows it’s a problem that bothers some we can add optional tag restricting.
I am really behind everything you proposed there. It seems well thought through and realisable.
Some days ago you had asked about why not fork Lemmy. What happened to that idea and post?
OP deleted that post and a follow-up after making unsubstantiated claims and getting heavily downvoted.
Only posts? I like tags in slashdot/slashcode for moderation.
