Yeah, I get tons of random messages from people I don’t know. A couple are recruiters who are finding my number on my CV, but most are just “hi sweety, do you have time to talk?” from random numbers all over the world.

No one I know is going to change to those. LINE also has other business stuff built in for interacting with companies (customer service for my massage place, my dentist, etc.) In an ideal world, sure, but it isn’t going to happen.

Really? I’ve gotten almost no spam in the last decade or so I’ve been using it. The one time I did, I think the account had been hacked.

I have a whatsapp because my dad wanted to be able to call me without international long distance fees. He’s called once and I get endless amounts of spam. I’ll be seeing him in a couple of weeks, and I can hopefully switch him to LINE (what everyone uses here) and get rid of this app for all and get the last cancer of Meta out of my personal life.

My current phone does not have a jack and my previous one did. I would prefer to have it since there are times I don’t need/want noise cancelling and bluetooth, but I have no choice but to run down my headphone batteries more.

I live in Japan and am not at all worried about this. Maybe local seafood prices will drop. Great for us, but sucks for the fishermen and their families.

Now, if we could properly build things and not cheap out on the plans so that this doesn’t happen again, that’d be great… (also, more geothermal!)

I stopped using anything meta years ago. People who want to stay in touch with me and I them continued to stay in touch. If those people will not stay in touch with you, good riddance to them.

I suppose you could do a basic web search. Meh.

You make the claim, you provide the evidence.

The actual reason I ask is that, if this specific sort of thing exists, it would be good to specifically target and fight it.

I mean, the vast majority of people here are not committing sexual assault. There is certainly work to be done with the justice system regarding reporting and prosecuting crimes, but it’s not like Japan or Osaka or Tokyo just condone SA.

I still have a box full of all kinds of male-male, female-female, and female-male adapters somewhere for serial, parallel, VGA, etc… I’m trying to recall the joke about them at the time, but there really aren’t that many that I can think of. My Pixel 6 issues (originally bluetooth, which now (mostly) finally works, but now overheating and a factory reset to fix background networking just dying) turned me off pretty hard. I ended up getting another Android tablet instead and it, thankfully, has mostly been great.

I’m still really on the fence about sticking with Google devices for my phone. It’s even push me to consider going back to Apple, which I really don’t want to do. I’d rather stick with Android, but I also don’t want bloatwere and/or spyware (in addition to what using Google apps already gets me).

I can think that both are bad places to different degrees for different reasons. Particularly when some would like for the US to become more like that.
