Huh. I’ve been to all of those but Yokosuka, some as recently as a few months ago but also pre 2023, and I’ve found that almost everything I go to took card. I wonder if we somehow happen to only go to places that do/don’t take card and thus have totally different experiences with cash only.

And yeah the toilets are great. Toto sells them in the US if you’re based here. A little expensive, but if you’re gonna live at your current place for a long time, it’s probably worth it.

About to finish that one after several years, so I picked up that dev’s latest game. I’ve heard it’s even better, so I’m quite excited. DOSin2 is one of the best games I’ve played.

An active box office community. I don’t really watch movies but I enjoy the data and the discussions about why movies are performing that way. @[email protected] tried to singlehandedly keep it afloat for some time, but it didn’t work unfortunately.

I imagine it’s like sports statistics but with a lower barrier of entry, and sometimes you watch a film franchise you enjoyed die in real time.

This is clearly not true, Lucas cared a lot about his story and universe. I say this hoping it helps effectively communicate points later: statements like that detract from your premise because they’re obviously false to an audience that knows and cares. It would be better (from a rhetorical standing) to double down on the poor storytelling allegations by acknowledging it as true instead, then going on to say that they were cinematic incoherence regardless.

I haven’t seen a single one of the prequels in over a decade except RotS (which I thought was an interesting story but a poorly made film), but my dislike of the prequels is because they’re not good movies. My dislike of the sequels is that they were not good and were made to maximize profits.

THe orginals do hold up, because Starwars was about classic adventure story. The character of Luke Skywalker… It’s the sort of timless story, just with a spin on it beeing a sci-fi world… The prequels and sequels completley missed that aspect of basic stoytelling.

This is where I completely disagree. Movies should not be aiming to do only the classic adventure story over and over again, and the prequels weren’t bad because of the story. They actually had a pretty classic story too: an evil being corrupts a well-meaning but slow-to-react institution filled with self serving or incompetent representatives by manufacturing conflict to seize power. All the while the forces of good are distracted and unfocused by the chaos— and too sure that their institutions will not bend to tyranny— until it is too late. With a solid director, the prequels could have been excellent, and also perhaps a prophetic warning about complacent democracies.

Some amps do indicate how much power they’re outputting. The little portable dac/amp Qudelix 5k is $100 and does this. I think it also has fields for impedance and sensitivity, wherein it calculates SPL (dB), but I don’t actually have one so I’m not confident.

I believe you’re correct. DACs obviously can’t determine volume at all, but amps can try to use the impedance to create an estimate.

This probably isn’t accurate though. If you really want a good estimate, you would have to calculate it with current voltage output and the specs of the headphones/IEMs in question.

I’m just a hobbyist too, but my headphones are extremely inefficient so I’ve spent some time looking into this. Too bad we don’t have oratory here

Worse in the insidiously-pushing-dark-agendas manner for sure, and an altogether much greater threat to humanity. It couldn’t match Tay for straight up insane evil— she was loudly supporting eugenics and more— but that makes it more dangerous.

You’ll probably find that most people prefer new conveniences over the old ways. Some older things like fountain pens are cool, but corded charging doesn’t have the same draw

It’s a few things for me personally:

1. Magnet/wireless charging is a one handed operation while corded charging is two

2. The magnet/wireless charging as a whole is slightly faster. At least one second, or more if you have an iPhone and don’t want to scratch up the stainless steel around the port. What do I do with that saved time? I don’t know either, but having one extra second is never a bad thing even if it’s not necessarily good

3. Wireless charging is easier in the dark

Whereas corded charging only provides the noticeable benefit of superior speed. This isn’t necessary if your battery is lasting through the day though. Now wireless charging is less efficient, so that sucks, but in use no one is actually noticing the extra electricity used and it’s probably equal environmentally to someone who charges and uses their battery multiple times a day.

I’m not vegan but I agree. I’ve said this before but meat is kind of a crutch and branching out into plant based menus has led to a lot of creativity. Plus plant based dishes look better— not terribly important, but nice.

I find 11MP’s food to be better now that it’s entirely plant based, and have found myself using less and less meat at home. Besides unhealthy fast food for the calories while bulking and some restaurants that aren’t as forward thinking, I’ve found myself accidentally almost pescatarian these days. Meat based dishes just lack a certain something.

One day I’d like to be vegan but I lack the strength of will. It does feel like talented chefs like Crenn or Kofoed could have me there sooner than expected, and largely unintentionally.

Gates has the money to do both, and more. It’s just sometimes better to let others do it instead— having your own space company means worrying about competition, contracts, and potential profitability. Meanwhile if he wanted, he could hitch a ride on any of their rockets with no effort.

Musk and Bezos also have the money to do both, but they merely elect not to. Perhaps in the future they will, like Gates, begin funneling more of their effort and wealth into altruism to improve their reputations.

The person she told that to, Homer Hickam, had no say in the firing, expressed disappointment after, and helped her get another job after (though I do not recall if it was successful). In an era where companies are increasingly sensitive about what employees post online, she had it much much better than just about anyone else in the world fired for the same thing at least.

And really… perhaps I’m old fashioned, but posting stuff like that in the same tweet as your NASA offer was pretty poorly thought out. NASA doesn’t feel like the type of organization that wants its employees associated with messaging like that.
