Strongly disagree, I think it’s very useful to accept your own addictive tendencies so you can stay mindful of the risks, but as with most of these things it’s probably personal. Use what works for you.

No worries, it appears that most of the world uses the word “scooter” differently than we do in the Netherlands :-) with your definition of scooter I agree that my statement was ridiculous haha.
Yeah it’s my bad as apparently most of the world uses the word differently :-) I’m a big fan of electric vehicles, both the noise and pollution are reduced which is great!
That’s why I said compared to their speed. I don’t know any brands or example models, all of them are obnoxiously loud and driven by simple minded fools imho. Cars make relatively little noise, and newborns and trees do not belong in this comparison in my opinion.
Edit: tried to find a picture, seems these are not universally called scooters even though they are where I live. I mean models like this: https://www.scooterforyou.nl/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/34_G7_99_KISBEESPORTLINE-1.jpg
Ugh yes, and ban scooters and motors as well, they make such a ridiculous amount of noise compared to their speed.
I feel this is missing a couple of !important statements :)
Jealous of the amount of free time you have available ;-) good luck!
Too soon man
Haha thats awesome
I’d recommend scheduled tasks instead. Why be involved at all? :-)
I never said anything about Onyx, I don’t own one but have considered them. They look nice and open.
I do own a couple of Kobo devices though and just wanted to say it’s not running Android of any kind but it’s still relatively open. Especially compared to phones, tablets and Kindle. The firmware/OS point you’re trying to make is irrelevant there and I think you know it :)
There is NickelMenu and you can telnet into it. You can also install other OS like KOReader easily, it doesn’t have a locked bootloader or anything like that. So imho that’s pretty accessible and open.
We are talking about the Kobo right? It’s not running any kind of Android or AOSP fork.
No it’s not running Android.
Using Calibre you could probably glue that together. I wouldn’t want Android on an ereader personally.
It’s not open source but it is easily rooted and you can install custom add-ons or even replace the os.
Well you could, it’s just the usual pros and cons. How will you get momentum and community around the fork and how will you get a sufficient amount of instances to switch to a fork to have any impact. Not sure we’re at that point yet.
Edit; checked the PR you referenced and it’s just a stylistic issue apparently. While a bit pedantic imho, I think a fork reaction to this is overblown. It was merged later in another PR; https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/pull/2032
That’s ridiculously exaggerated and you know it.
Nice example!
I think proxying everything through lemmy would have a pretty big bandwidth/scalability impact. I expect the lemmy clients dont send any unique user info on these image requests so not sure how useful it would be as a spy pixel? Maybe I’m missing something :-)
Yeah I totally agree, I hate that they keep adding new stuff instead of focussing on their core business. It’s especially annoying as the Android Protonmail app and the regular web mail client are really bare bones and have several long standing issues. Honestly if I had set it up with my own domain instead of the @pm.me (which admittedly is a nice suffix) I probably wouldn’t be a paying customer anymore.
