  • I was trying to overtake a car on a narrow street with just two lanes going in opposite directions. I was way above the speed limit and another car was coming at me. Luckily, the other driver had noticed an idiot ahead and braked. I barely avoided them as I rejoined my lane in a narrow gap between two cars.

As soon as it had ended, I realized how stupid and dangerous it was. I could’ve died and killed innocent people. What scares me the most is that every other person on the road is the same human species as me. People make these idiotic decisions in a split second, without thinking, and you read about yet another horrific crash on the news. I was very lucky not to cause one.

Now I employ a very different approach to driving.

  • Projects get donations and grants, some developers are on salary at corporations that contribute to open source. Even if you’re developing a small project that doesn’t generate any money, you’re getting paid with experience that can help you grow as a professional. Some people simply enjoy what they’re doing and that’s a great return.

  • I don’t know if there is a graphical interface, but do you need to read the whole readme? To me it looks like there are just three relevant flags.

      Post-Processing Options:
-x, --extract-audio Convert video files to audio-only files (requires ffmpeg and ffprobe)
--audio-format FORMAT Format to convert the audio to when -x is used. (currently supported:
best (default), aac, alac, flac, m4a, mp3, opus, vorbis, wav). You can
specify multiple rules using similar syntax as --remux-video
--audio-quality QUALITY Specify ffmpeg audio quality to use when converting the audio with -x.
Insert a value between 0 (best) and 10 (worst) for VBR or a specific
                                                            bitrate like 128K (default 5)

Unless you have strong religious motivation that the driver must be open source or the official driver doesn’t support one of the edge cases people mention, there’s no need to change your GPU. You shouldn’t make decisions based on things that you hear in the echo chamber.

  • The UK government denies that it has changed its stance. Minister for tech and the digital economy, Paul Scully MP said in a statement: “Our position on this matter has not changed and it is wrong to suggest otherwise. Our stance on tackling child sexual abuse online remains firm, and we have always been clear that the Bill takes a measured, evidence-based approach to doing so.”

Under the bill, the regulator, Ofcom, will be able “to direct companies to either use, or make best efforts to develop or source, technology to identify and remove illegal child sexual abuse content—which we know can be developed,” Scully said.

Although the UK government has said that it now won’t force unproven technology on tech companies, and that it essentially won’t use the powers under the bill, the controversial clauses remain within the legislation, which is still likely to pass into law. “It’s not gone away, but it’s a step in the right direction,” Woodward says.

Idk, to me it’s far from over.
