During a game of Star Wars d6 rpg i ran a group through basically the train job episode of firefly (that was in solo 12 years later) and they did not realize it until we were watching firefly together. I also ran them through the cloud city plot from ESB while they were on cloud city.

I started with reading books on Norse mythology, then realized the gods in it were no more or less valid than any other god. There is a Norse paganism community on lemmy (I still have not yet figured out how to link communities)

I am a non-theist Norse pagan and have been a Norse pagan since I was single digits in age. I was raised by a Catholic mother (her mother was Irish Catholic and her father was Roman Catholic), my father’s mother was a Mennonite. I was not raised religiously, but i still have Catholic guilt, and use religious curses.

A lot of times those are going to be cheaper, if you like the thick spined books those are the way i would go. I personally like single issues because they are easier to open without damaging the book. But if i came across one that was a full collection i would jump on it instead of trying to track down all of the issues.

I used to own a comic shop and i always tell people start with what is currentish. Mostly comics will be 6 issue (give or take) story arcs. If you find yourself in the middle of an arc go back an issue until you find the start of it*. After you have been reading some go find some TPB/graphic novels of older stuff.

*Comic books are great about adding an asterisk with a footnote about where to find info about something they mention in the issue that you may have missed so you can go find that issue and see what they are referencing.
