True, but this is only part of the solution. Term limits can cause the real power locus to move to those unlimited proximate positions. A holistic solution involving congressional term limits, limits on staff and lobbyists, etc that all work in concert to prevent hoarding of power is what’s needed.
I would expect a century+ old established wide-spread technology to be able to beat a newer less tested technology in many cases. This doesn’t mean conventional rail is inherently superior and especially doesn’t mean we should discard the concept. Maglev faces much resistance (such as the cultural resistance evident in this thread), it’s time may only be starting now as the automobile age looks to have peaked.
To simplify it, when capitalism answers “is it worth the cost?”, it is not answering “is the benefit of this thing to society worth the cost?”. They’re answering “are the profits I would get out of this and the risk worth the cost?”

There aren’t really any non-capitalist countries except maybe like N. Korea, which is not known for deciding things on merit.
There are plenty of situations in the US where something is unprofitable but still funded because the benefit is worth it.
I suppose, in some rare cases where there is not heavy lobbying and massive industry resisting it in an effort to preserve their power and wealth.
Because it’s not currently profitable in most cases. Capitalism ensures that the merit of an idea comes secondary to it’s profitability. We don’t get the best things, we get the profitable things.
My mom makes a chain of safety pins (about 8-10 long) and attaches it to her clothes. Then you grab the chain and touch things with it (or it touches things as it dangles) to discharge w/o pain or hurting others. I tried it, seemed to work.

IMHO the most important thing is to have a moral foundation so you understand yourself why you believe racism/bigotry to be a bad thing.
It’s hard to say one is being good when intentionally and needlessly harming another right? And racism and bigotry intentionally and needlessly harms those being discriminated against.
So you get to decide if you want to be a decent person or one of the ugly hateful people. And of course whichever one decides, they will reap the consequences, whether that’s a bunch of cool friends or something else.
My recommendation to you, start viewing your coworkers as the ugly people they are and make it clear you don’t hang around low-lifes without directly stating anything in reference to them.
Do people still have driver issues on Linux? What hardware are people using? I’ve been using Arch literally since it came out. I can’t remember the last time I had any concern that the laptop I bought would run Linux, …actually I do remember, I had a laptop with a modem that didn’t work right off the bat (or ever since it was 2008 and never tried to make it work).
