I had to do a module programming in VHDL for my EE degree.
Every time I see it mentioned anywhere I have a compulsion to scream: FUCK VHDL AND ITS FUCKING ERRORS! NO YOUR ANALYSIS & SYNTHESIS IS UNSUCCESSFUL!
I did not pursue a career in electronics…

Couldn’t figure out how to access my headless server’s desktop environment via VNC without a monitor connected and turned on. I bought a hardware displayport dummy adapter to pretend to be a real display to get it to work.
A hardware solution to a software problem… felt really wrong.
I’ve since wrapped my head around tmux and managing all my services via command-line or web-ui so I have no need for it anymore.
Looking up the terms “jus soli” and “jus sanguinis” might be of interest to you. Basically it’s different for different countries.

1·1 month agoHaven’t done it in ages but I used to run xquartz on a macbook and do x window forwarding from my desktop. It worked surprisingly well, even on remote sessions via an ssh tunnel.
I don’t have much reason to do it nowadays because laptops are so much more powerful and storage is so cheap that the stuff I was doing can all be done locally.
There’s a firefox extension that generates the cli command for whatever video you’re on. Let’s you check boxes for the format, sponsorblock, etc and then copies it to your clipboard.
Just search the addon store for yt-dlp and it should show up

Whoa I’m a stickler for getting as much as I can out but even I have .zshenv and some other too hard to figure out things in there. How’d you manage a total wipeout?
Playstation/Xbox.
I love multiplayer shooters, obviously hate cheaters. If I have to install a rootkit on my primary machine to play and still come across cheaters, I may as well just get a console with heavily discounted hardware cost and peace of mind that the only thing people can really abuse are xim/cronuses. Also it feels nice that everyone in the match will be on a level playing field in terms of hardware specs and I’m never tempted to buy a new graphics card, CPU or cooling just to eek out a few extra fps.
Crossplay off all the way.

I was going to say I had the polar opposite experience until your last paragraph.
Lecturers were very rarely excited about the material they taught, left as soon as they could and were far more concerned with their research than helping students.
That was EE so probably a mix of weed-out and the fact that they were all socially awkward mega nerds.
