Did Mozilla signal any intention to phase out V2 though? It makes sense for them to support both, as a lot of extensions (that don’t rely on V2 features that are missing from V3) are going to be built for V3 now and if Mozilla wants to keep their extension store full. If they didn’t offer both versions, extensions developers might disregard Firefox as a platform because of its low usage share numbers if they had to maintain two different architectures.

Wonder if the recent antitrust ruling about Google paying for being the default search engine will affect Mozilla’s funding.

In practice, CrowdStrike very likely tests Falcon on various hardware as parts of their tests before shipping updates on it, as it’s used by a huge amount of enterprises; and a fuckup like that would mess the trust they’ve built with those enterprises. Enterprises are trusting them to run ring 0 code on their computer, so they can have a malware-less experience after all.

That is patently false. It was developed to help develop the Linux kernel, which famously has multiple decentralized repositories managed by different maintainers.

No it’s not, what a weird take. If I publish my art online for enthusiasts to see it’s not automatically licensed to everyone to distribute. If I specifically want to forbid entities I have huge ethical issues with (such as Google, OpenAI et. al.) from scraping and transforming my work, I should be able to.

That’s not true. The way their streaming works is basically a Playlist of shorter fragments. They can easily insert their own fragments without obvious visual tells if they don’t alter other elements of the page to indicate that an ad is playing.

I highly recommend reading the Github thread as this is not at all an accurate representation. These features you’re talking about are off by default. Removing them from the existing package is just breaking existing users. There’s already a report from a user who can’t access their passwords because yubikey support was suddenly removed. You don’t do that to users just because you suddenly develop an opinion as a package maintainer that you feel is important. There was no dialogue, no consideration and a very rude, dismissive attitude of Julian.
