Dude, who are you fooling, you expect me to Believe you never dropped an N bomb?

Yes. Millions of people can say the same.

Sounds like maybe you are surrounded and raised by racists? That sucks man.

On the other hand, our whole culture has been steeped in racism, ever since Europeans first set foot on the continent. So probably not a lot of people can truly say they’ve never had a racist thought or held some racial bias or did some racist thing, whether unknowingly or not. Because there are lots of manifestations of racist ideas and if one is white, one is probably blind to at least some of it.

It’s a lot easier to never say a specific, disgusting slur.

    Exactly.

When I accomplish something in a hobby it is an entirely different story. I am proud and happy, pleased, and all that good stuff. When doing these kinds of projects, I’m motivated by interest and not fear of negative consequences of failing.

Even if NT folks don’t feel good about most accomplishments, I am guessing they probably would feel a lot less stress, anxiety, self doubt, self flagellation, etc. for the same task as ADHD folks.

nobody is interested in learning how things around them work.

Right? I think this to myself all the time. I mean I know it’s not nobody but it sure seems like it is the vast majority.

And yes, I too have too many hobbies and not enough time. I really hope I live long enough to retire and have time for some of it lol

  • Likewise. Meds help me …but so did therapy. I still have to have the mindset right. If I do and I’m on meds then it actually works.

I totally believe (without any evidence but my own experience) that procrastination for me with ADHD is at least partly a response to prior unhappy experiences.

Now that I recognize some of the emotional components involved I can work through those directly and have a much better chance of getting motivated .

And also I still procrastinate plenty and I have come to avoid self judgement. Because beating myself up doesn’t help me get motivated. It does the opposite. I accept that this is a tendency but one that I continue to improve upon.

    Totally agree.

And even if you don’t say racist things, growing up in the US, the pervasive, insidious racist ideas (e.g., myths, stereotypes, falsehoods) may have infected our thinking.

I think Dr. I. X. Kendi framed it right. It’s on each of us to understand what those racist ideas are, examine ourselves, and choose to fight against them not just in our own minds but everywhere.
