And that’s the problem, because everyone is coerced to do that if they want to survive. And those, who own the means of production, the capital, the companies, are those who have the power to exploit those who don’t. And they do.

8·1 year agoTake the following with a big spoon of salt, since I am not a lawyer. Those are the results of interest and some reading on that topic.
Insulting someone is illegal in Germany (§ 185 StGB). You can get financial penalties and in worst cases some jailtime. However, if you insult someone back immediately, those can cancel each other out and the judge can exempt both of you or one of you from punishment (§ 199 StGB). Furthermore, since it is considered a crime, you could, theoretically, detain the culprit in case they want to flee until you are able to get some identification on them, i.e., see their ID card, or until someone like the police arrives (§ 127 StPO). Also this is not okay if you already know the person or have easy means to determine their ID (e.g., your neighbour or someone working at a facility you visit). In all cases the proportionality of your actions are important. (Beating someone senseless just to detain them, because they called you an avocado in a mean way is certainly not okay. This might be slightly different however, if the person in question commited a violent crime and is still acting violently.)

That doesn’t need to stop us. We got pretty good with breeding animals for specific traits. So you could take dogs which are very massive and breed them until they yield even more meat. Just like we did and do with cows and pigs. Also it is possible to feed dogs on a plant based diet, so it wouldn’t be that much more expensive. (Besides, meat is extremely cheap due to subsidies. It costs much more to have a plant based diet, especially if it’s organically grown. You could also use meat scraps as it is also done for pet food. Further lowering the price.)
No one is. A lot of people who are preferring a plant based diet due to moral reasons are well aware of such “roadkill”.
Thing is, we’re not breeding them into existence. These deaths are accidental and if there were a technical solution to the problem everyone would be in favour of that. In the animal industry on the other hand everything is intentional. Both, the scale and the moral intentions are a completely different world there.
So, from the moral stand point of veganism: is it bad to kill animals? Yes. Is it worse to kill animals intentionally on an industrial scale, which could be prevented, than accidentally on a much smaller scale during plant farming where it currently can not be prevented? Absolutely, yes.

You misunderstood the science. Not getting a sufficient intake of nutrients, including proteins, is what’s killing you. You can easily get proteins from plants and plant based foods. Then everything is fine.

No. We didn’t and we don’t. If I am not mistaken, in humanities history we mainly had a plant based diet. The massive increase in meat consumption is a rather modern phenomenon.
We are omnivores, yes. That means we have a digestive system which is able to process meat as well as plants. But that doesn’t mean we have to use both or a single source. It is possible to get all of your required nutrients from plants and plant based sources.
And what does this existential respect look like?
Having a bit more joy in life and living a day longer in a cage which is one squaremeter larger until they get slaughtered?
Still no freedom and an unnaturally early end of life.

Everyone will die without proteins. And you can get all of the required protein from plants and plant based foods. This is not only the case for adults and children but also for pregnant people.

You know that we breed a crazy amount of animals into existence for the sole purpose of killing and consuming them, don’t you? And you know that a lot of times we even throw away a lot of what’s edible from the animal? No other species on earth does this.
Furthermore, even in the wild predatory carni- or omnivores usually don’t kill a whole population of animals. They kill some, yes for the purpose of survival. But by far not all. And even if that happens, those predators will starve and die until more prey is available again. That’s how predators and prey are balancing. Meanwhile we kill basically every animal we breed for food and we wouldn’t even need them for our survival. There is no such balance. To the contrary. It is one of the major factors of environmental destruction and pollution.

First of all that might be a reason not to get a pet. Secondly, dogs, cats and ferrets can be fed on a plant-based diet. It might not be as easy and should definetly happen with support of a veterinarian (as most people won’t know for sure what they are doing), but it is proven to be possible without inflicting harm on the animals.

Can everyone just manipulate the map data? Is there some sort of control mechanism or is it easy to incorporate fake data?
I’m asking because this seems to be a really fallible concept, where people with malicious intents would have an easy way to disturb Open Street Map.
6·1 year agoSadly, we have a long history of incompetent transport ministers. That didn’t change with the last elections.
Not natively, but with help of containers. I found two projects and to be honest I don’t know much about them yet, as I still use Android for device warranty reasons. (But I am eager to try as soon as the warranty expires.)

Of course you could also run Android emulators, but such container applications like Waydrois are more efficient.
Commercial maintainers
(Companies like Volla, FXP and Fairphone offer compatible Ubuntu Phones as part of their business. Their reputation rests on preventing any major problems and taking a long view. Some devices can even be bought with Ubuntu Touch already installed!
The fact that they feel the urge to use filters reflects much deeper issues with humankind.
While that would indeed be awesome, that’s not the route they proposed. It’s more about slowing down the perception of time, rather than being able to actually do something peoductive during that.
Despite thinking, “wow that’s a disgusting way to see and treat humans”, and some obvious moral concerns (like, social isolation for what feels like 1000 years, which will fuck up most people badly), which make this feel like a black mirror episode, the mind-upload issue is technically extremely tricky. Even if we had the technology to “upload” the human mind, it will be a copy, a clone, not you individually. And if we don’t have an option to download the copy back into your brain, it will just be a waste of energy.
More importantly, an intriguing question is raised: After such a download, will this be you? Or just a copy of a copy and thereby another being which just replaces another one.
Another thing I find important to ask here: what’s the point of penalties? These suggestions seem to me like psychological torture rather than measures to “correct” social behaviour. In no way resocialisation seems to matter here. So we just fuck people up by that and unleash them onto society afterwards. Doesn’t sound good to me.
