Not exactly op’s scenario but I had a client once who was a landlord. I was delivering some papers for him to sign off on some stuff, and he had me come into his kitchen to go over them. On his dining room table was piles of cash, like a foot tall, at least 200 stacks. Had to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. He casually walks past the table and throws a sheet over the money like “nothing to see here.” Years later I read he got busted with several hundred pounds of drugs and illegal guns, so guy was into some pretty bad shit.

That title gave me whiplash.

Deleted Facebook, instagram, 14 years ago, twitter in 2019, reddit during the api bs, stopped being the only one maintaining relationships, and finally, stopped caring about most things and people/dram I have no power to fix or change.

I was more referring to your final statement. Those who take and take and never give back to use you with little regard for your own happiness or safety.

I have a somewhat skewed perspective on this. I get the hate for large corporate stores like Walmart and Amazon, but as someone who can’t drive due to being legally blind, both companies have given me a level of independence I’ve never had before. Before grocery delivery became widespread due to Walmart+, I had to take a cab to and from the store (extra $30 each way plus tips). I remember reaching out to a locally owned grocery store 20 years ago and asked if they would be willing to deliver weekly groceries for a monthly fee. I was told in no uncertain terms to go fuck myself, they literally laughed at me. Times change though, and now I can get everything I want or need for a fraction what it used to cost even with inflation. I can also shop more confidently since I can see the products better and get more info about them online then in a store.

Faith and Religion are two different things. Yes, I think the world would be far better without Religion. But faith gives people strength to overcome challenges that otherwise may destroy them. Faith doesn’t require you pay anything, money, time, etc into it. Faith is a personal thing between that one person and whatever they happen to put the faith into. Faith doesn’t require you to kill someone else because they don’t share that faith. Faith doesn’t require you study some fairy tale written by storytellers thousands of years ago. Religion is the opposite of all that, and for it’s survival requires you to spread the virus by any means necessary.

Extremely pessimistic to the point that I have a planned out when the dumpster fire gets close enough to ruin what little peace I have.

I have my out planned. Don’t care what happens to whatever stuff I leave behind.

Long term 5e game, was in it’s 4th year. Wife was playing a lvl 15 cleric that had taken a vow of celibacy but fell in love with an npc. They had been courting for about a year in game and she was about ready to break her vow, changing her alignment, and multi classing her character. But a cataclysmic event occurred causing the complete destruction of the capital city, killing thousands. As meteors of fire rained down on them, they ran through the city towards the air ship docs. As the npc rounded a corner, I had her roll to see if he misses getting hit by a ball of fire. She rolled just well enough that he misses dying, but is at 1 hp (I gave him 10). Bleeding from a massive head wound, she takes the half speed penalty to help him the last 200 ft to the air ship. Forgetting she had a mace that let her cast a teleport spell up to 1,000 ft to any place she was familiar with.

I make her roll every 30 ft to avoid another strike. She passes most as I set the DC only at 12. But about 170 or so ft with one roll left she nat 1s. She then looks up at the sky and screams “IS THIS BECAUSE WE HAVEN’T HAD SEX YET?” I asked her if she is asking her god, and she thinks for a second before saying “Fuck it, YES!” So I tell her, as the words leave your lips, a sudden burst of energy and inspiration strikes you, and you remember you have magic that could get you to the ship. Her eyes go wide, and she yells “SON OF A BITCH! I cast teleport from the mace to bridge of the ship.” She and her Partner instant teleport.

After everyone else gets aboard, the airship begins to lift off. I make the party roll one last avoidance roll so the ship doesn’t get hit. 2 nat 20’s and the rest in the mid to upper teens. So the ship flees the city as it burns and crumbles into flame, ash and rubble behind them. Danger averted, and with questions of what exactly happened. She grabs her lover’s hand and storms off to her room yelling to the party. “Don’t disturb us for at least and hour.” The table erupted in laughter and cheers and I describe them marching below deck followed by the slamming of a door. She broke her vow, leveled up and multi classed her cleric into a rouge.

Played The Planet Crafter with my wife, ordered Pizza, drank some beer, and then worked on packing for a work trip I have coming up. Good night over all.
