  • I used to work for a major TV/Internet provider that offered video on demand movies and TV shows. I had several instances where a family would move to a new location but the account wouldn’t transfer and instead it was set up as a new account. Hundreds of dollars spent on VoD titles would be lost and I couldn’t do anything for them because the company I worked for didn’t provide a way to restore those titles. If I purchase a digital copy of a movie, show, book, etc. I don’t feel a single shred of guilt pirating it to keep a downloaded version for myself and neither should anyone else.

  • So, I appreciate that you seem to genuinely want to understand trans people. You should keep in mind that being trans means different things to different trans people and not everyone’s journey is going to be the same. The reason that we give gender affirming treatment and are supportive of trans people when they go through transition is because it leads to the best mental health outcomes. This doesn’t even involve surgery most of the time. If you accept homosexual people as they are, would it really be such a stretch to do the same for trans people? They just want to live life without their very existence being constantly questioned. If you meet a trans person, you might be surprised how kind and genuine they can be.

This is only the half of it. Dude spent years becoming a monk and learned a bunch of meditation techniques and practices that have been transformative for me. I’ve been looking at ADHD resources on YouTube for years and no one else I’ve seen there have the insights he does. I ended up purchasing his guide but just going through his YouTube catalog I’m still finding videos that are gold.

He laces practical advice with misogynistic and bigoted undertones. He tells people to adhere to the “natural order” and you shouldn’t try to improve the world but only strive to improve yourself and be a better worker bee. He stopped practicing psychology and teaching it because what is taught in psychology doesn’t agree with his political views. Recently he has chosen to be a right-wing voice for the daily wire to personally profit off of airing his grievances with society at large. He calls his fellow colleagues in his profession “butchers” for giving gender affirming care and he might lose his license because he is maligning the profession he himself was a part of. He seems that he would rather nuke his credentials to further his career as a pundit. He is a deeply disturbed man that has yet to get his house in order lecturing young people, mostly men, about what it means to be a productive member of society.

  • I honestly think the combining of the same communities on different instances will happen more at the app layer. It wouldn’t be hard to group them all in the same category for convenience and it allows for more granular control. Downside being that it makes an already complex platform more complicated but hey, that’s kind of the point and reason people come here to lemmy in the first place. I want more people to join lemmy but I also know that it’s going to be a niche platform for quite a while if not the rest of it’s existence.
