I love chicken, pork, and beef. I have tried the meat alternatives and I like most of what I have tried. I would be vegetarian if it honestly wasn’t so expensive sometimes. Not to say meat isn’t also expensive.

I work with a guy who is a vegan and honestly. I don’t get the hate towards the life style. Guy is as healthy as they get and morally more sound in the area of food than I am.

What am I missing on Vegan hate or even vegetarian hate. No one imposes on me. Honestly, I feel like they have something figured out I dont.

  • “Why do you guys simply believe things should get better?”

That is how I read this. More power, more efficiency, better tech is not a bad thing to want.

Just because you want to hold on to a 5 year old phone doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t at least want to see efficiency in our pockets get better for the value we spend on them.

Imagine if someone said, I have dial up internet. Why are you guys constantly wanting faster Internet speeds.

It’s okay to want things to get better. You should not have the mentality of, “it’s just good enough.”

  • I second this. Lemmy is fully of “techy people” that think the only way to be “techy” is the way they define it without realizing if you aren’t universally adept or open then you are curating your content to a point you are part of the “sheep” you claim not to be a part of.

If you like anything you pay for then you are wrong. If you still use Windows you are wrong. You need to abandon everything Google and Apple but still buy a Google product and run a degooglefied version of the product. So give the company you hate your money but not your data. Makes perfect sense.

It’s either Linux or the highway but not everyone wants to use a terminal to use Mullvad or Tor every time you want to access the web to shop for a pair of shoes. Despite the fact you can write a script that still requires you to use a terminal to run Tor or what ever.

Not everyone wants Torrent speeds to pirate that piece of Microsoft software or movie. Some of us want to be, “normies” and just buy and use things that work without all the work that is unnecessary in our every day lives. We want to go to work, make money, spend time around people and things we love.

Yes, we get it we are the reason corporations and capitalism exist but I don’t see your FOSS downloads and open source software slowing that way down. We don’t need online tech heros who can prove you can free yourself. We need activists and people like that running got local politics and leadership helping actually put a stop to being taken advantage of.

Posting something about Unity enraging game companies is something anyone can do. But shoving a community off that you should be respectfully educating rather than shunning just because someone didn’t want to pirate a movie and instead watch it on a Windows machine through Linux isn’t or doesn’t change anything.

I am no longer on Reddit but Lemmy is fully of tech people who also often have 0 fucking clue what they are talking about. Which is quite ironic.

  • An easy barrier of entry isn’t always the issue at hand. I think what the user is saying, hate Google or not, you are at the very least safe to some degree. A lot of people don’t realize that VPNS are just ways of manipulating where your data goes and who sees it and that VPNs can be abused as services even if they aren’t Google.

Those same services can sell your data just the same as Google. Let’s not forget that the “mega corp” everyone loves to hate is the reason you have Android competing against iOS which is part of another mega corp. People on Lemmy should get the fuck off their high horses.

  • I am just trying to make sure I understand that the average Lemmy user doesn’t believe in unsubscribing and blocking an email and instead would rather just bitch about how they are getting emails from a source they could block just so they can talk about privacy and intrusive companies. However those same users who have the privacy experience and “knowledge” have the same issues from the sounds of it.

  • I am about to go back to reddit because Lemmy users suck as human beings. I can’t believe the user base that was here before Reddit users think they are somehow fucking better.

They think they are alternative to an average person somehow. Constant posts about how they are different but after seeing a post of them comparing trans protesting to the extremism of the KKK and seeing the comments be full of people talking about how they are “middle people” they “stay on the fence” and are “different” because they don’t believe in being extremist. I think I am done with this fucking place.

Isn’t Telegram Russian owned as well?

Lol, god Lemmy is so different than Reddit.

Asks a question, gets down voted. only two comments from users who bothered to educate. Lemmy really just a community full of knowledge gate keepers that think they are better than Reddit users. Reddit users would have at least provided and article or some knowledge.

After doing some digging Wikki does say that it owned by two Russian brothers. One who sold a social media platform of his after a Russian infiltration and Russian government pressure for him to do so.

I think I will just keep using Signal.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telegram_(software)#%3A~%3Atext%3DHistory-%2CDevelopment%2CRussia_after_resisting_government_pressure.?wprov=sfla1

I think I am about done with Lemmy. I have seen post after post of smug users with shitty ways of thinking like that killing more people is going to solve the world’s problems. Or that one platform is the only way to be. Or that they more about privacy and security than anyone else.

Lemmy users are just as shitty as the rest of the Internet in their own ways.

  • It’s all good. I get that the confusing part is really when you save something locally versus saving it in a browser. Like if I am working on a document it will save it in document but I will go to save something on the web and it will put it in Downloads but I will go looking for it in Documents.

I have tried to get better at that by basically just double checking each time.
