  • Mobile games don’t become as lucrative as it is without mtx. People understand the business reason, but it doesn’t mean it shields it from criticism. Doesn’t need defending either, since as you said money is enough to not care. You don’t really start doing that stuff if you care about perception, so I say good for them monetarily speaking. But, that’s the extent of my praise.

  • Personally I avoid videos with variations of the open mouth, confused face, and disappointed look these days. It’s just the area of YouTube I’ve gotten tired of, and those videos usually tend to be pretty shilly playing to the algorithm and tend to be from bigger channels. I understand why its done, but it doesn’t shield from criticism. Anyways good for them, but it has manifested in a way where because the algorithm is what dictates the product it feels like AI in a way where the presentation style gets tiring.

  • I think the biggest argument against headphone jack taking up space is the existence of the Samsung Ultra with the Spen. Samsung has an excuse for the Ultra not having a headphone jack with the space dedicated to the Spen. But, most phones don’t have a built in stylus, so what’s the excuse for them. Not like phones have gotten tinier. How is the spen a technological possibility, but headphone is being made to be some technological difficultly that is more difficult to overcome?

  • Politics seem more exhausting than on reddit, since there’s entire instances that exist soley for the purpose of spreading their beliefs. Which is a pro for them with instances helping to foster a stronger community, but then they seem so much more present every where too. /c/all can be flooded with the topics they want to push if there’s a mass submission. And new instances pop up if defederated with the main goal seeming to be not just a community for themselves, but evangelizing. And lemmy isn’t at a stage yet where subscribed feeds can provide enough content to avoid /c/all like back on reddit.

Connect for lemmy with keyword filtering and instance blocking has really helped though to reduce the frequency of manual community blocking. Didn’t block during the first few weeks though, which was a nice period before it became necessary to curate personal feeds.

  • I think the honey moon period is over for all instances and communities when people were motivated to comment with the goal of trying to encourage user growth by being nicer than they usually are.

Now that people are settling in they are more comfortable using the fediverse like they’ve done on social media. Which does change the type of posts and comments that now come out.

So arguments are expected for even trivial topics like games. It’s good or bad thing depending on the viewpoint, but was expected outcome since motivations for posting was much different in the earlier days.

  • Thanks for the link. Yeah, just length alone isn’t a good reason to dismiss a video since if something is interesting I’ll watch it like that NFT video.

More just when it comes to the coverage around LTT it is at the end of the day just some YouTube channel being called out and the PR response getting whole flood of talking heads jumping on the bandwagon. It’s one of the topics now that feels so run to the ground for what is gossip or opinion pieces that until there’s either more concrete new evidence from within the organization or new content from LTT to talk about it’s not the most engaging topic for a long exposé with there being no new revelation to be attention grabbing.

Which is the main reason why for at least just LTT videos the duration was a turn off in the current offerings of LTT focused videos with it being so over saturated. Of course, if it had Linus or anyone from LTT being invited to interviewed then yeah that’d be interesting.
