Along with a lot of people preparing them improperly, people just can’t get over the whole fungus thing. I slowly acclimated my wife, and after years of encouragement to try them, mushrooms are now one of her favorite foods, which kind of sucks because now I have to share my mushrooms. All it took was her trying them one single time.
They can be. For me at least it seems to be a “when it rains it pours” situation. I either come across one every couple hours, or I play nothing but smurfs for a whole evening.
I had a similar experience a long time ago in Boston. I worked for a real estate brokerage as an administrative assistant. For anyone that might not know, the Boston real estate market is basically dead unless it’s between March and September. I had already been sitting in the office by myself for months, doing absolutely nothing. No calls. Nothing besides an occasional trip to the bank.
We got so much snow the city shut down. Everyone was told not to drive, all public transport was shut down, people were skiing in the streets. My boss fired me for not going into work. Apparently I should have walked for 3 hours in 2 feet of snow so I could sit in an empty office by myself doing nothing. His office was a block away, in another brokerage he owned, conveniently nestled right underneath his apartment.
I got some Google home mini devices and now none of them work to do basically anything of value. Actually I shouldn’t say now, they stopped doing the basic functions I wanted them for around 2 years ago.
Telling it to play a show on TV doesnt work, which is essentially why I bought them. The most they can do now is basic on and off functions. They were constantly going off at random times when no one was talking. They have now become fancy looking paperweights.
I also have Google TV which is slowly becoming worse and worse. I recently bought my kids Rokus because they had all the same functions as Google but without the microphone remote. They were half the price and are working better than my Google TV.

Playing in ranks lower than the one you belong in. Smurf players will generally be at least a few ranks higher than your own in skill, but where it gets tricky is sometimes they are intentionally losing so that they don’t rank up, winning so they don’t lose rank, or they are just trying to record replays to post online.
Differentiating them from normal players can take extensive experience, but the key to making them quit is dependent on their goal.
Intentionally losing smurfs: lose any way possible, including forfeits. Score into your own goal or forfeit as soon as you can.
Winning smurfs: there isn’t much you can do besides focusing on saves rather than goals. They want easy wins. They will forfeit a match to get an easy win with someone else.
Replay smurfs: they don’t care if they win or lose. All they care about is making it look like they scored a difficult goal. Quickly move to the goal they are moving towards and do donuts. This shows they are not actually competing against anyone and they won’t be able to post their replays. If you’re fast enough they will give up quickly.
If you’re on a win streak of matches and suddenly it seems like you can’t touch the ball, can’t clear the ball, and can’t save the ball, you’re probably playing against a Smurf.
I only play casually so I often bait smurfs into giving themselves away. After a while I could tell within the first minute of gameplay. Most of the time, scoring into your own goal will piss them off since “winning smurfs” and “replay smurfs” are often the same people.
It really is a fun game though, and smurfs don’t really become annoying until you’ve had a decent amount of time in the game.
Thirded, and was expecting RL come up. It’s so unbelievably hard to master yet extremely simple and easy to get a leg up on competition through common sense.
There is the smurfing problem that seems to arise for me after midnight, but I’m at a level now that smurfs either quit early, or I can torture them into leaving matches.
There really isn’t any other game that scratches the itch. We all suck at RL, but the calling of will to suck just a bit less never dies.
They will pull a gfycat and migrate all adult content to a a new domain ala redgifs.
Everyone’s butt hole could be anywhere on their body. Everyone needs a different kind of toilet to properly position themselves. Everyone starts aligning themselves as friends based on the location of their butt hole. “Oh sorry I can’t stay too long. My butthole is in my armpit.”

Hey now, American kids love oil and it’s good for them. They should rewrite the bill to remove all content that isn’t about oil. Not avocado oil or malarkey like that though. That stuff is bad news, unlike petroleum oil. They may call it crude but we gotta make sure the kids know crude means good. The more crude the healthier the babies, that’s what I always say.
Wow. My sister is Chinese and this is not ok. She eats ice cream just like everyone else that’s not handicapped by intolerance, and her bones are like steel beams. Purple? That’s crossing a line.
I mean, why do we take pictures of our offspring? They’re keepsakes to remember how they’ve grown. When I play them the montage on their death beds they can finally say, “you sure have grown into a giant asshole.”
I am a guitar player first and foremost, but their drums always sounded damn good, and their hardware was always super solid. Not my area of expertise, but Yamaha seemed to never made a cheap kit because their base model kit had such good hardware and quality it was punching up to way more expensive Pearl and Ludwig kits.
The only problems I’ve seen is that they don’t have good resale value because they are China made, and most musicians don’t want to be that guy playing anything made in China.
Also good choice on the FG. I’ve played a lot of acoustics and honestly yamaha acoustics are astounding. If I were to pick my top 5 acoustic brands, Yamaha would be solidly at #2. My next acoustic is going to be a Yamaha trans-acoustic. It’s either that for $800, or buy my dream acoustic which costs $5000.
I have experienced it, and in my experience it was in no way possible for it to be confirmation bias. My wife and I sometimes do something weird where we just talk for hours. Crazy I know, but we bounce ideas off each other to an extent that we get into conversations about stuff we have never talked about nor ever searched for. Not even anything remotely close to related to things we search for.
We used to have and use a lot of Google home minis. Within hours we would see ads for the exact thing we were talking about. We would see ads for thing related to conversations we had within hours. We started getting hyper vigilant about it. We started randomly talking clearly and loudly about nonsense subjects and products that we have no sense to talk about and waiting to see how long it would take to see a suggested ad pushed to us by Google. It usually took less than 24 hours no matter what it was. This went on for months.
It became a running joke to us and I would walk into the room and say something like “I would love to buy a farberware brand vegetable peeler. There is nothing more that I would like than to purchase farberware brand appliances and homewares”. My wife would laugh, and usually before the end of the night I would have large targeted ads on my phone for farberware appliances.
Honestly since we stopped using the Google home minis (since they barely work with anything due to googles bullshit software support) it happens far far less.
I am loving that it doesn’t feel like reddit, and it’s really weird to me that anyone does while they are also screaming about how terrible reddit was in every way. It seems like a lot of people are forgetting that the reason reddit sucks is because most of the communities are too big and have been around too long.
Large groups of people with a shared interest are not welcoming, they are condescending. They are jaded and have “seen it all” and have no qualms telling others that they are anything from inexperienced to inept. Any opinion outside of the norm is attacked with vitriol. New members questions might only get a response to “set them straight”. They reinforce echo chambers just to feel superior, while claiming that they aren’t echo chambers because they are constantly arguing with other people. The whole concept of a normal conversation is lost on them because they can’t separate their ego from their demeanor. They take circle jerking so seriously that they can’t even circle jerk anymore and have to uj/ every comment. They can’t use sarcasm because there are so many hateful people that would agree with them.
I’m not trying to say “back in my day frankfurters were a nickel” but even ten years ago, the infighting, briggading, downvote wars, smugness, and soul filled anger and negativity on reddit was so much lessened that it doesn’t even feel like the same website. It feels like I’m reading YouTube comments. What used to be a place where people might disagree with you, but at most they would just make fun of your bad grammar, or misspelling, is now just a website full of hate mongerers trying to divide people into groups.
Here on Lemmy feels to me like the old days of reddit. I can feel free to comment on whatever post I feel like and don’t have to worry about someone coming at me full bore, just to try to make me feel bad that I like to eat American cheese on my breakfast sandwich, or like the feeling of wet socks on carpet.
Sorry for the rant.
I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say that before. Almost everything they make is industry standard setting when it comes to price. It’s either so cheap you can’t believe it, or it’s priced right where it should be.

I don’t like cilantro. I don’t hate cilantro. Everyone shouts that it’s a genetic thing, so apparently it’s not possible that I can have a distaste for a common food while also not thinking it tastes like soap.
Every time it comes up, somebody wants to feel smug and tell me “well you know…”. It’s the one food where if you don’t like it, it has to be a genetic thing. Maybe I can just not like how it tastes as much as others. Maybe I don’t mind it in salsa but don’t like it in my soup. Just because I don’t mind a finger in my butt doesn’t mean I want a dick in my mouth.
